"A diabetic receives healing from not one, but two"
Sometimes, when you ask help from one, you receive it from two.
Ronnie has been living in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam for more than 10 years with wife Ara and their three daughters and one son. Every one of his days was ordinary - work five days a week at a Filipino-owned company and spend time with family on weekends.
Sometimes, when you ask help from one, you receive it from two.
In a country where Christians comprise a very small portion of the religious, the family tried to practice their Catholic faith as much as practically and meaningfully possible. For instance, in lieu of attending Sunday Mass in a language they don't understand (Vietnamese), Ronnie's family goes to church to simply pray instead. Upon the advice of his father, Ronnie and Ara also taught their children how to pray the rosary, and it has eventually become a habit for the entire family.
But the family's rather mundane existence was suddenly rocked when Ronnie was diagnosed with diabetes. They simply did not know what to do with this disturbing development. One short week after the diagnosis, though, an answer seemed to have presented itself. Ara's friend dropped a call and asked if their family would want the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary visit their home.
Ronnie granted the request, albeit with a slight surprise as he never knew that such a Catholic activity existed in Vietnam.
While waiting for the image to arrive, Ronnie's condition rapidly worsened. One month after the diagnosis, he lost 10 kilos and his vision slowly blurred to such degree that it has become impossible to read without eyeglasses. But the slow blurring also accelerated. In a very short span of less than a month, the strength of his lenses rose remarkably from 75 to 500.
So, the visit of the image of the Blessed Mother came just in time, as if to tend to Ronnie's needs.
Incidentally, when the image was brought to their house, the image of the Divine Mercy arrived along with it. Ronnie's family was taught how to pray the Divine Mercy chaplet, and they began to pray it and the rosary regularly.
After the one-week stay, the image moved on and visited another home. Although the family continued to pray the rosary, they somehow forgot the Divine Mercy chaplet and stopped praying it.
Meanwhile, as his condition deteriorated, Ronnie began to fear for his health. Aside from his eyesight, his blood sugar levels also worsened, shooting beyond the dangerous level of 500.
For some reason, Ronnie remembered the Divine Mercy chaplet and looked for the novena booklet that was given to them during the visit.
The chaplet again became a regular part of their prayers, with Ronnie asking for healing. But this was not without its critics; his son, for one, entertained doubts that God would answer their prayers.
Soon enough, the answers came, and the healing began.
During one of his reading sessions, Ronnie took off his glasses and tried to read unaided by his corrective lenses. Expectedly, that did not work. But when he put on a pair of eyeglasses with a strength lower than 500, he was unexpectedly able to read.
The next day, Ronnie used another pair with a much lower strength of 150. Again, much to his surprise, he read just fine. He did all of these experiments with weaker lenses without the knowledge of his wife and children.
Then came the big reveal. One night, he took off his eyeglasses and, in front of his family, read the entire Divine Mercy chaplet with his very own eyes. His prayers have been finally answered!
He has not used any of his eyeglasses since that time. When he went back to the doctor for a check-up, Ronnie received confirmation that his eyesight has indeed returned to normal.
But there was more: his doctor informed him that his blood sugar level has also returned to normal.
Ronnie was simply ecstatic with joy. Though he has not fully recovered yet, he has started to gain weight. "I can feel the happiness of my wife and kids," he said. "I knew that the Lord Jesus would grant my request."
"I was also able to prove to my children that He really answers our prayers and gives His Divine Mercy," he added. "If only we ask."
Ronnie should know. He asked help from the Mother. And She brought Her Son along to answer him.
