The good news when you feel like being punished

The good news is that, the difficulty and pain that human is experiencing is not God’s punishment for sins or weak faith. Thus, to be haunted by these feelings that God punishes is not healthy at all because as this is but punishing oneself which is a form of sacrifice.  No amount of sacrifice can match by what Jesus had already borne on the Cross. Jesus’ sacrifice for sin was once for all believers for all time (Hebrews 10:14). No sacrifice of any kind for sin was ever needed again (Hebrews 10:18).[2]

Allowing one’s humanity to be led astray by the lie of sin is punishing oneself – this is the reality about punishment but neither did God punish anyone for their sin.  No one is born a sinner after all; it’s a choice and environment that influences and drag one’s feet to be on sin.  To be deeply distressed and embarrassed are their own punishments.

Witnessing a painful consequence of the one who sins and transforms cautions and teaches already, offering a cure at the same time that there’s only one way out – to get out of it.

Recognizing that sin is really just mistakes helps realize that there's nothing to be worried about. Mistakes are good things, a conduit towards learning. This is not to persuade anyone to commit a mistake; blessed indeed who are consistent not to err, but blessed also are they who learn and restructure after a mistake.

Life is not a bed of roses and that’s because of succumbing into the temptation of sin both personally and communally and even politically.  Nonetheless, life blossoms again after turning from sin.  The life of faith has always been difficult for saints but championed after embracing the real faith and obedience.

Proverbs 3:11–12 My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord,
nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives. “It is for discipline that you endure. God is treating you as sons,” he said. These saints were not to interpret their painful experiences as God’s angry punishment for their sins. That angry punishment was completely spent on Jesus - once for all - on the cross.

To be more precise, this is the message that everyone should understand from their hardships: God loves everyone! He has fatherly affection towards anyone. He cares deeply for all. He is taking great pains so that everybody will share His holiness (Hebrews 12:10) because He wants everyone to be as happy as possible and enjoy the peaceful fruit of righteousness (Hebrews 12:11).
