A week earlier before the husband's birthday, the mother talks to the children to organize a surprise party for their father. Each one out of own initiative shares creativity to make him happy on his birthday. As agreed on, they were so excited to rush preparation because they want it to finish before the father arrives.
Unexpectedly, the father files an undertime so he leaves the office earlier. The mother & the siblings were the ones surprised instead of the father because they assumed everything to be finished before he came.
While everyone continues what they're doing, the father asks his wife for a glass of water. But the mother replies, "Get it by yourself, anyway it's just behind you. I'm preparing some pasta & this is for you." He calls his son to get the slippers for him but the latter replies, "Get it by yourself, Dad. It's just beneath your seat. I'm cleaning the dining." Meanwhile, the daughter is busy fixing the curtains. Her father instructed to call their family doctor. "Later on, Dad. I'll finish this first," the daughter replied.
While the members of the family are pre-occupied on the preparation, the father left them & went upstairs to take a rest. After a while, the preparation has already been done. The mother goes to their room to call her husband. She knocks repeatedly but no one answers so she opened the door to wake him up. The father could not respond anymore. He is lifeless. The reason why the father asked for water is he was struggling to breath, for slippers because he could not move freely anymore, for doctor because of his condition.
James 2:14-17 What good is it my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear & has no food for the day & one of you says to them, "Go in peace, keep warm, & eat well" but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works is dead.
More often than not, we're too much concerned of the externalities & deprive the most essential. We appear beautiful outside but full of pretense inside
For example, our government high ranking officials speak about so much discipline who look dignified in their suits & communicate as if very reputable when they appear on TV, but they've been known as the first violators of the law. We define terrorism as citizens who oppose the government & therefore these political leaders who break the law are nothing but terrorists who terrorize the country's treasure, economy, justice & decency.
Mark 7:21-23 From within people, from their hearts, come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly. All these evils come from within & they defile.
In the middle of all this circumstance, the time and life continues to spin for everyone of us. Each day God renews our lives. We can pretend to be good through press releases & outward appearance but we cannot fool God defensively. Surely, good deeds through sincerity are our treasures in heaven but good deeds used as a cover up of misdeeds is incredulous that leads to misery. Once the life is there, the hope will always be there; the hope to change, reform, recover and reconnect..
James 3:13-17 Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we shall go into such & such a town, spend a year there doing business, & make a profit. You have no idea what your life will be like tomorrow. You are a puff of smoke that appears briefly & then disappears. Instead you should say, "If the Lord wills it, we shall live to do this or that." But now you are boasting in arrogance. All such boasting is evil. So for one who knows the right thing to do & does not do it, it is a sin.
Titus 1:15-16 To the clean, all things are clean, but to those who are defiled & unbelieving nothing is clean; in fact, both their minds & their consciences are tainted. They claim to know God but by their deeds they deny Him. They are vile & disobedient & unqualified for any good deed.
