Habits that accelerate aging process

1). Immoderate Alcohol Drinking

Alchol can make one’s age faster[8] by causing wrinkles, which includes premature wrinkles, loss of collagen, elasticity, redness, dehydration and puffiness. However, it’s the amount and frequency of the drinking that really matters. Some recent studies indicate that alcohol has some health benefits when taken in moderation.

There are no nutrients in alcohol to begin with. As a matter of fact, alcohol can adversely affect one’s nutrition levels by causing reduction in healthy nutrients that assist in carrying oxygen throughout one’s body. In particular, alcohol can have a huge negative impact on vitamin A level, which is a very important antioxidant for human skin/body and it is essentialin the regeneration of new cells.

Also, Vitamin A is very significant in the production of collagen. Having lower amounts of collagen is losing elasticity on the skin. Collagen and elasticity helps the skin to be lithe, stretched tight and looking young. Immoderation in alcohol actually accelerates the aging process because of already losing collagen and elasticity as one matures. One’s facial skin is already so flimsy as compared to other areas of the body. Humans are constantly exposed to pollution, smog, smoke and the sun. The more human drink in excess, the more she/he is accelerating the aging process.

The US Government Dietary Guidelines discloses that a moderate level of drinking is up to one drink a day for women and up to two drinks a day for men. A drink is either 5 fluid ounces of wine, 12 fluid ounces of regular beer, or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled liquor.

When alcohol is metabolized, it acts as a vasodilatorwidens the blood vessels that bring blood to the face, which cause redness and puffiness or swelling. Taking a lot of alcohol over a long period of time, the blood vessels just continue to grow and enlarge, leading to a loss of skin tone and/or permanent redness including skin that is blotchy comparable to rosacea. This redness can also turn into broken capillaries or vessels that can burst, especially around the nose and face.

Alcohol is also very dehydrating, acts like a diuretic. The more a person drinks, the more dehydrated she/he will be. A good rule of thumb is to have a water or a non-alcoholic beverage in between drinks to keep oneself hydrated while enjoying favorite alcohol. Human will be happy to have her/his skin hydrated and the body will love her/him for avoiding a nauseating morning hangover.

Most people know and understand that alcoholism is a disease and the long-term effects can be detrimental to your health. Long-term heavy drinking can lead to liver disease, brain damage, heart disease and even contribute to breast cancer.

Women metabolizes alcohol differently than men. Women get a higher concentration of alcohol in their bloodstream and brain chemistry. Women are usually smaller in built and size, thus, women often feel the effects of alcohol so much more rapidly than men.

Nonetheless, moderate drinking can help to lower cholesterol and lower the risk of heart attack (as compared to non-drinkers, especially in older men). Alcohol can help to lower the risk of diabetes by improving the body’s sensitivity to insulin and also help to lower the risk of dementia.

Aging is a natural process but there are things that can make human grow old faster than normal.[9] Humans have lifestyle habits that accelerate aging and though no one can’t see or feel them today, she/he will wake up one morning and look 10 years older than her/his real age. Below are some of these habits that will make wrinkles, fine lines, sagging skin and other signs of aging become visible.

2). Cigarette Smoking

Not only that it is linked to all kinds of diseases including lung cancer and heart problems, smoking can also speed up aging. One uses the same muscles whenever she/he puffs a smoke and eventually, the skin will start to sag and fine lines appear making her/him look older.

3). Sleep deprivation

Having a lot of sleepless nights can also affect one’s real age. It causes deep and dark circles under one’s eyes. Although it can be concealed with makeup, the constant lack of sleep leaves with a gothic look and has ill effects to one’s health.

4). Poor diet

Overlooking fruits and vegetables on regular diet can lead to fast aging. These foods are loaded with nutrients like vitamin E and antioxidants which are the key ingredients to having younger-looking skin. Consuming a variety of leafy greens and colourful fruits while still young can minimize the presence of wrinkles and sagging skin as human grows old.

5). Excessive stress

A very common lifestyle difficulty that people encounter is stress. As a matter of fact, it is one of the major causes why individuals look older than their age. Stress causes human physical and mental health to degenerate, turning her/him to be forgetful and bad-tempered. Exteriorly, one’s hair becomes dry and baldness appears in men.

6). Lack of exercise

Humans are too busy on financial aspects  and many things in such a way that they no longer have time to move their body. Lack of exercise can accelerate the aging process and reduce one’s lifetime. In addition, skin sags easily as she/he grows old brought by muscles that aren’t well-toned and firm.

Major depression, whether in the past or present, may actually speed up the aging process at the molecular level.[10]

According to a research, the people who experienced depression at any point in time – in the present or past – have significantly shorter telomeres https://www.tasciences.com/what-is-a-telomere/   than never-depressed people. Conversely, the individuals who went through the most severe depression have the shortest telomeres. The differences are perceptible after lifestyle factors – smoking and drinking.

Psychological distress has a large, detrimental impact on the 'wear and tear' of a human body, resulting in accelerated biological aging. Depression seems to cause dysregulation in the body’s stress and immune responses, and is associated with an increase in inflammation, all of which could be related to telomere reduction.

Depression has long been associated with an increased risk of major health problems including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, dementia, and cancer, not to mention increased mortality. For all of these reasons, it’s critical finding more effective ways to treat the disorder, which affects some 350 million people worldwide and is the second leading cause of disability.

The Most Significant approach to decelarate Aging

Insulin (a hormone made by the pancreas that allows body to use sugar (glucose) from carbohydrates in the food that one eats for energy or to store glucose for future use. It helps keeps blood sugar level from getting too high (hyperglycemia) or too low (hypoglycemia) is the major accelerant of aging. One can keep insulin levels healthy by reducing or eliminating grains and sugars from diet.

This one vital step, mixed with nutritional typing and the inclusion of nature's anti-aging miracle foods on diet, can dramatically improve health and longevity.

Likewise, a comprehensive exercise program is significant as that is another lifestyle choice that radically improves the sensitivity of insulin receptors and help to optimize insulin levels.

CONCLUSION:

As a result, when years of bad food choices take human’s toll on health, people want to feel better by tomorrow, craving for an ideal weight by next week. Consequently, there is a never-ending supply of drugs and fake foods available promising to address it. But sadly, nearly all of these "magic pills" and diets can make one’s health worse even more sooner or later.

Improving health entails a must to return to the basics of healthy food, chosen particularly for nutritional type, as it's all about eating the proper ratios of the right types of food for personal biochemistry.

This choice may be not be as convenient as one would like it to be especially to non-agricultural countries (I’m glad that I’ve been raised in the Philippines where vegetable and fruits are accessible and affordable) where organic foods are plus the amount of time required on acquiring and preparing healthy foods, wherein one basically ends up in fast and processed foods especially for working people and families who seek out for the sake of convenience and speed. But there are no short-cuts when it comes to this single most significant approach towards health.

At the end of the day, the easiest and most valuable approach towards good health and a long life is to concentrate on the regular nutrition that one is placing in the body.

Catholic Teaching on the Respect for Health

Life and physical health are precious gifts entrusted to us by God. We must take reasonable care of them, taking into account the needs of others and the common good (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2288)

Concern for the health of its citizens requires that society help in the attainment of living-conditions that allow them to grow and reach maturity: food and clothing, housing, health care, basic education, employment, and social assistance.

The virtue of temperance disposes us to avoid every kind of excess: the abuse of food, alcohol, tobacco, or medicine. Those incur grave guilt who, by drunkenness or a love of speed, endanger their own and others' safety on the road, at sea, or in the air (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2290).

The use of drugs inflicts very grave damage on human health and life. Their use, except on strictly therapeutic grounds, is a grave offense. Clandestine production of and trafficking in drugs are scandalous practices. They constitute direct co-operation in evil, since they encourage people to practices gravely contrary to the moral law (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2291)
