Recurrently I came across with this side comment
from people who are not jobless and perhaps did not experience of losing a job,
saying, "One will not be impoverished if she/he's not lazy." Even Philippines' Budget Chief Benjamin
Diokno recently made a comment identical to this.
For others, this adage could be applicable
especially when you own a piece of land because you could at least strategize
to source out for your own food by simply planting different crops. But what about these people in the cities who
never acquire a piece of land.
Of course these jobless could approach
significant others to provide them source of income like laundry, household
tasks and other blue collar jobs.
However, remember that there are individuals who turn to be pessimistic
brought by frequent frustrations and rejections caused by uncompassionate
others.
Hence, poverty is not generally a question of
unwillingness to work but could be equated to the number of opportunities that
individuals/relatives/group/corporate have opened for these jobless. Absolutely, there are lazy but not majority
of them, knowing the resourcefulness of Filipino families.
Reality check:
These people could not could provide a job to any of these individuals
who are experiencing poverty, are not the right people to grumble.
Contemplate on this: (catechism of the Catholic
Church CCC 2443)
God blesses those who come
to the aid of the poor and rebukes those who turn away from them: "Give to
him who begs from you, do not refuse him who would borrow from you";
"you received without pay, give without pay" (Matthew 5:42; 10:8).
It is by what they have done for the poor that Jesus Christ will
recognize His chosen ones (Matthew 25:31-36). When "the poor have the good news
preached to them," it is the sign of Christ's presence. (Matthew 11:5; Luke 4:18)
