One of the stipulations in SOGIE BILL describes
discrimination as “referring to any distinction, exclusion, restriction, or
preference which is based on any ground such as sex, sexual orientation, gender
identity or expression, and which has the purpose or effect of nullifying or
impairing the recognition, access to, enjoyment, or exercise by all persons on
an equal footing of all rights and freedoms.”[1]
In reality, even without this bill, there is no
nullification of homosexuals’ enjoyment on equal footing and freedoms
particularly on this clause.
I belong to the homosexuals so I know basically
what's all about it. I've been into
innumerable same sex relationships which I learned from going to movie-houses
here in Manila and even in the provinces.
How? During those times, when I entered the
movie-houses, I would normally give in to a one-night stand invitation
especially when I find them attractive.
Others would give me monetary provision and a night out with free meals
for others. This became habitual and
ended up either in the motels or to their houses.
My goodness! Four (4) of my friend's friends had
died of AIDS. Had I not made the initiative to leave a friend who's into the
same lifestyle, I would have died earlier like his friends. "Tell me who your friends are and I will
tell you who you are!"
In any movie-house, homosexual acts are rampant
in the balconies, corridors, comfort rooms, hence, deprivation of homosexuals'
freedom has never been non-existent.
Meaning, both sexes whether straight guys or
homosexuals could freely exercise their individual freedom and enjoyment in
terms of sexual orientation.
However, it is not judicious to tolerate such an
act through a bill that favors an imperfection.
Obviously, these immoral acts taken by both sexes are types of
imperfection as they are intrinsically disordered which are contrary to the
natural law - the characteristics that define between good and evil.
Of course, it will be common receiving a violent
reaction like, "C'mon you freely experience that pleasure and here you are
trying to repress us!" I'm not suppressing
anyone's freedom either. Even God
Himself provides us liberty for the benefit of the doubt. Nonetheless, although everybody has the right
to commit a mistake as we're prone to daily temptations, no one has the right
to sin forever, especially when we're already aware of its impact to personal
life and the society as a whole.
Both immoral conducts committed by homosexuals
and heterosexuals are something that need to be controlled, regulated and
repaired than providing a bill that condones them. Otherwise, men should also
be geared with a bill that deliberately ignores their heterosexual
enjoyment/immoralities.
Why both immoral tendencies are evil?
In any precept specified in the Scriptures, God
never details the reasons why it is
forbidden, evidently because obedience of His will is unconditional simply
because He is an All-Knowing God who sets life's standard in perfection through
perfect guidelines.
Nevertheless, if we'll check the reality, we
could pinpoint why did God prohibit homosexuality. Let's verify it. According to UNAIDS, 36.9 million people
worldwide are currently living with HIV.[2]
In the United States, gay and bisexual are the population most affected
by HIV. And because of the high
percentage of gay and bisexual men who are living with HIV, the risk of being
exposed to HIV is increased for a gay and bisexual men.[3] So what? Does the Philippine government
lead/mimic such a society by spoiling homosexual tendencies through a bill than
finding an alternate countermeasures?
If we'll look at it, whether the SOGIE BILL is in
effect or not, the freedom on sexual enjoyment as stated in the Bill, is not
nullified. The danger about it when legalized is not open-mindedness either but
simply consents the homosexuals to be trapped in the wrong values than assisted
in re-forming their values.
The bottom-line of all these is that, if
heterosexuals can reform from their being a womanizer (for straight guys) and
nymphomaniac (for straight women) through self-help or psychotherapy through
group/family/couple therapy, then homosexuals' mind, heart and conscience are
also fixable. After all, there is no
scientific proof that homosexuality is genetic but which is developed through
environmental factors or social conditioning.[4]
Therefore, instead of conceptualizing a bill that
gives green light to such an immoral act which compromises the orderliness of
the society brought by its alarming effect to the health of both sexes as
stipulated in the continuous multiplication of HIV/AIDS globally, what the
government can provide should they have the heart to help the Lesbian Gay
Bisexual Transgender Queer (LGBTQ) community, is a provision of an institution
that could help them in repairing their sexual orientation and values.
