Matutong maghigpit ng sinturon; hindi lamang sa loob ng pandemya, kundi sa lahat ng panahon!


Nitong tatlong gabi ang lumipas, bago ako maghapunan ay tinawag ko ang atensiyon ng aming pinakabunsong kapatid; dahil nakita ko na namang ang daming kanin na nasayang, dahil madami kung magsaing - pagsasayang ng pera na dapat ay naitago na lang bilang ipon.

Dati ay 9 kami; na naging 8, dahil nagkapamilya na ang pinakapangay namin sa edad na 21 years old (kung hindi ako nagkakamali), na nasa Angat, Bulacan ang pamilya.

Sinundan ito ng pang-6 na kapatid na lalaki, na bumuo ng kanyang simpleng tahanan sa tabi ng.bahay ng mga magulang ng aming hipag.

Sumunod ay ang isa pang bunsong kapatid na lalaki na nagsarili kasama ng kanyang napangasawa, na itinabi ang simpleng tahanan sa tabi ng bahay na ipininundar ng isa pang nakababatang kapatid sa pamamagitan ng BANK LOAN noong 2010.

Kasunod nito, ay ang pang-5,  na nagpundar ng bahay at lupa sa pamamagitan ng RCBC Savings LOAN (kung saan kami ay nakatira), ay bumuo din ng kanyang pamilya at nagtayo ng isa pang tahanan sa Nueva, Ecija.

Samantala, ang pang-8, na bunsong babaeng kapatid, ay nag-asawa nitong Enero lamang, at ngayon ay kasama ng kanyang napangasawa, sa Calawan-an, Daram, Western Samar.

Ngayon, mulang 8, ay naging 4 na lang kami (Nanay namin, 2 kapatid na babae, at ako); dahil yung isang bunsong isang lalaki (na may ka-live in ay nasa Singapore ngayon), ay stay in sa kanyang trabaho sa Makati.

Nawalan ulit ako ng trabaho; kaya dapat ay MAGHIGPIT ng SINTURON. Sabagay kahit naman nang may trabaho ako higpit-sinturon din naman; dahil sadyang malaking pamilya kami.

Sanay naman kami sa kahirapan; dahil nagmula kami sa MAHIRAP na PAMILYA, specifically sa PROBNISYA ng BIRI, NORTHERN SAMAR.

Bagamat sanay kami sa kahirapan, ay hindi namin hinayaang malugmok sa kahirapan.

Hind kasalanan ang maging mahirap; pero ang mamuhay sa kahirapan ng habang-buhay, ay katamaran na yun at kawalan ng diskarte.

Ito ang unang pagkakataon kong mawalan ng trabaho, umpisang lumipat ako from CORPORATE SALES to GOVERNMENT UNIVERSITY, at naging FACULTY, na siya ring naging SOURCE of INCOME ko bilang isa sa mga BREAD-WINNERS ng pamilya, pagkatapos ng RECOVERY PERIOD na tumagal ng mahigit 1 year, dulot ng ma-COMATOSE ako (kasabay ng pagpanaw ng aming TATAY at sabay na pagka-ospital ng aming Nanay.

Ang aking LAYUNIN sa pagpalit  ng CAREER ay para sa SECURITY of TENURE sana; na hindi ko makuha sa CORPORATE SALES, dahil sa SALES QOUTA-ORIENTED ang labanan dito.

Ganito sana ang aking OBJECTIVE; kaya lang, bagamat SOBRANG BABA ng MONTHLY REMUNERATION (although cautioned ako ng dating Dean Juliet Catane na sadyang mababa  ang MONTHLY COMPENSATION sa pinasukan kong University), ay in-enjoy ko sa tutuo lang, lalung-lalo na kung nakikita ko ang GROWTH ng mga ESTUDYANTE in TERMS of CRITICAL THINKING and ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS.

Pagdating sa klase, pinaglalalaban-laban ko yan sila (esp. yung sa FACE-TO-FACE CLASS); para MASUKAT ko ang kanilang galing SPONTANEOUSLY.

Iniisa-isa ko lahat ng mga estudyante, mulang front row hanggang last row (na may approx. 50 students in every class) na mag-participate sa lahat ng DISCUSSIONS, dahil ayaw kong may maiwan isa man sa kanila, kundi may MATUTUNAN at UMANGKOP.

Para mapaghandaan nila ang bawat discussions ay tina-transmit ko the day before through FB page, ang konsentrasyon ng lahat ng TOPICS, para MAHIMAY na nila, ma-research, for some CLARIFICATIONS and OBJECTIONS.

Hindi ko lang IN-ACCOMODATE ang APPLIED ECONOMICS (dahil MARKETING MAJOR ako); imbes na tanggalin ang isang subject, ay TINAPYAS lahat ng 3 SUBJECTS, kaya hindi na NA-RENEW ang aking CONTRACT.

Ang pagbigay ng ganitong subject, na hindi ko MAJOR ay nangyari rin noong FACE-TO-FACE CLASS, nang binigyan ako ng MATHEMATICS in the MODERN WORLD. Pikit-mata akong sumunod, sa kadahilanang ang aking sahod ay HOURLY RATE.

Sinubukan kong makipag-usap, para sa librong ipinahiram sa akin ni Sur Enrico Flores, sa kakilala ko sa FACEBOOK (na may kasunduang-bayad para sa serbisyo), na isang Engineer, at Cum Laude sa San Fernando, La Union.

Kaya lamang ay hindi rin niya alam ang nilalaman ng libro (na na-transmit ko sa FB PRIVATE MESSAGE) na ipinahiram sa akin ni Sir Enrico Flores; kung kaya ay walang ibang pagpipilian kundi ang bumalik kay Sir Enrico Flores para magpaturo sa kanya, kahit nakakahiya man.

ZERO KNOWLEDGE ako sa POLICIES ng UNIVERSITY; dahil hindi ako nabigyan ng hard/soft copy nito, kung mayroon man.

Kahit CONSULTATIONS/MEETINGS among non-permanent FACULTY ay wala, maging FACE-TO-FACE o ON-LINE CLASSES man.

Hindi kagaya sa CORPORATE SALES, na tuwing Lunes ay may mayroong CONSULTATIONS/MEETINGS, para sa mga WEEKLY DEVELOPMENTS, CONCERNS, SUGGESTIONS, COMPLAINTS, para maaksiyunan  isa-isa, kaysa mawalang-bahala. And take note, pereho para sa PERMANENT at NON-PERMANENT EMPLOYEES.

Ang inaakala ko na MAS MAKAKABUTING PLANO para sa INAASAM na SECURITY of TENURE, ay hindi rin pala.

Ang salin sa wikang Filipino ay ginawa; upang maabot ang mahihirap na mga magulang na may mga anak (na kagaya rin naming mahirap) na nagsusumikap makapagtapos ng pag-aaral sa kabila ng kahirapan, na hindi tinitingnan ito bilang balakid, kundi ay isang hamon tungo sa pag-usad.

English Translation (taken not as an initiative to behave as someone who's "holier than thou" but simply as a proof that our parents who were raised from a poor families, exercised their EAGERNESS to EDUCATE us starting from primary levels up to the univrersity exposure, not looking at poverty as a hindrance).

Learn cost-cutting measures; not only within/out pandemic , but all throughout of life's existence!

Three nights ago, I called my younger sister's attention, when I noticed about left-over of cooked rice, brought by excessive cooking - a waste of money which could be kept into our savings already.

Previously, we were  9; but our eldest brother got married at the age of 21 (if I'm not mistaken) and settled down, with his family in Angat, Bulacacan.

This was followed by the 6th brother, who developed their simple home beside our sister-in-laws' parents' house, in 2008, if my memory serves me right.

Another younger brother lives independently with his wife, who built also a simple home for them, just beside the house, which another younger brother (who's a seafarer) acquired in 2010.

Subsequently, the 5th brother, who had a mortgage loan of property through RCBC Savings (where we are residing), also established his family and constructed another home in Nueva Ecija.

Whereas, the 8th sister, just got married this January 2022, and now with her husband in Calawan-an, Daram, Western Samar.

Now, from 8 siblings, it become 4 (our mother, 2 sisters and me); as the 7th brother (who has a live-in partner and works in Singapore) who has been with us, stays in his workplace.

I've lost a profession again. Hence, we need an  immediate cost-cutting measures to cope with this imperfection.

We've been used to difficulty anyway, as we came from an impoverished family, specifically in the province of Biri, Northern Samar.

Although, we're raised from poverty, we don't allow to be trapped forever on the same pattern of  adversities.

It's not a sin to be cultured in a poor family; but to remain destitute forever, is what make it sinful, because of disallowing  strategic points and the absence of plan of action.

Apparently, this is my first time to lose a  source of income, being one of the bread-winners of our family, starting when I shifted from the CORPORATE SALES (August 2019) to a GOVERMENT UNIVERSITY (on the same month & year), after my hospitalization which brought me to be comatosed in almost 2 months, along with our father's death and also by hospitalization of our mother, who was discharged ahead of me.

My objective on shifting my career is for SECURITY of TENURE supposedly; which I could not acquire in CORPORATE SALES.

This was my goal. However, although the MONTHLY REMUNERATION is QUITE UNCOMPETITIVE (PHP207.65/hour vs. PHP20K prior to this), although I was cautioned by the former Dean Juliet Catane, who's already retired, I enjoyed in my communion with the students, to be honest, especially when I could notice their GROWTH in CRITICAL ANALYSES and ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS.

Ironically, the state university teaches CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR) & BUSINESS ETHICS, OPPORTUNITY SEEKING, PROGRAMS & POLICIES ON ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT (which I personally handled); but does not apply the ESSENCE of these subjects being taught to the students into the actual utilization of them.

Aside from the aforementioned, when I returned to the University as Faculty, after hospitalization (which brought me to be COMATOSED which lasted for almost 2 months plus recovery period which lasted for more than a year) , in the course of conversation with the IT DIRECTOR, it came to a point that I needed to be transparent to him about  my ACTUAL FINANCIAL CAPACITY, when I  was caught into a situation that there was no other way but to communicate with him through video chat (which is free thru unli feature CP load versus call which is costly) when I encountered troubles on TEAMS APP registration, given that my UNIVERSITY GMAIL ACCOUNT was established inside the UNIVERSITY's perimeter than in our home.

As a result, when this GMAIL ACCOUNT (which is connected with the useability on TEAMS APP, it could no longer be accessed in the area where I'm residing. Thus, there had been recurrent notifications sent by MICROSOFT, particularly on the need to talk to the ADMINSTRATOR (the one who created my UNIVERSITY GMAIL ACCOUNT.

In short, nothing happened, despite my plead to assist me, which I understood though, as I signed a NO-EMPLOYER-NO-EMPLOYEE RELATIONSHIP CONTRACT. We scheduled an appoitment about this issue to resolve; but when I went there in the university, it was not materialized brought by a number of COVID cases in IT Department, according to what I acquired..

Although I was aware of the propensity to be unaccomodating, I still tried, because it was urgently needed for my on-line class, brought by the late start of the classes.

Conversely, if in CORPORATE SALES, everything is FREE (LAPTOP, MOBILE, TRANSPO, COMMUNICATION at MEAL  ALLOWANCES, IT & TECH SUPPORT ( pls. refer to this link on the same sentiment of NON-PERMANENT University FACULTY - https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=787365788787427&id=368444077346269),  while in the STATE UNIVERSITY (I am clueleess if it's the same with other state universities/private schools), it is EXACTLY the OPPOSITE, which are all shouldered by non-permanent Faculty. That is why I've been used to being supported by IT & TECH people in times of TECH troubles.

While enduring my commitment, I developed my students to engage in debates (esp. on FACE-TO-FACE CLASS); so as to MEASURE their EXCELLENCE and SPONTANEITY. I would let them one by one from front row up to the last row (composed of approx. 50 students in every class), to participate in all of the DISCUSSIONS, as I did not want anyone to be left behind, but learn and adapt.

In preparation for every discussion, I would basically transmit the TOPIC CONCENTRATION through FACEBOOK PAGE; for them to dissect, research, for some clarifications and objections.

Note: On Face-to-face class, I needed to give a a mobile phone out of compassion (although it's 2nd hand) to one of my students, as she has no phone to use in an on-the-spot research & critical analyses).

It's just that the OPPORTUNITY was not meant for me, based on what transpired.

Apparently, there were three subjects offered to me on the SECOND SEMESTER (which classes started on March 1, 2022).

Instead of removing APPLIED ECONOMICS (as I am a MARKETING MAJOR than ECONOMICS); all of the three (3) subjects were spliced. Hence, my CONTRACT was not renewed.

This kind, had already happened during the FACE-TO-FACE CLASS; wherein I was given MATHEMATICS in the MODERN WORLD. I blindfoldedly follow with the flow, as I preferred a HIGHER INCOME, given that my take home pay is based on an hourly rate.

I tried to source out for possible TUTORIAL on the book that Sir Enrico Flores had lent me through asking for an assistance (with pre-arranged payment of service rendered) from a FACEBOOK friend who's an ENGINEER and a CUM LAUDE from San Fernando, La Union.

Unfortunately, he had no idea about the book's content (which I transmitted through FB Private Message); and thus, I had no other choice but to talk to Sir Enrico Flores (who was supportive & accomodating) and asked for a TUTORIAL, even I found it embarrasing.

At first, I thought that my aiming of SECURITY of TENURE would be obtained, but I was wrong. I realized that working in a GOVERMENT UNIVERSITY does not recompense all the difficulties (from Lesson Planning which lasted until midnight and even after the following day for a review, up to checking of test papers), which is beyond an EXTRA-MILE.

But since I finished obeying, it's now time on EXPRESSING my DISSATISFACTIONS than be SILENT FOREVER.

Because if it happened that my life was taken, when I was COMATOSED (admitted on September 8, 2020 and discharged on October 20, 2020), which lasted for almost two (2) months; these disappointments would just all be burried in the tomb.

Obedience has also its limits, when it already compromises not only my ACADEMIC FREEDOM but also the SKILLS of the students. Although their education is free, as it is SUBSIDIZED by the governent, they deserve QUALITY EDUCATION than DEPRIVED, if the university believes that the youth is the HOPE of the COUNTRY.

The one I forecasted to be a solution on my plan for the SECURITY of TENURE, is indeed irrrelevant.

It's even HARSHER than my experience in CORPORATE SALES; wherein the employees' DEDICATION, PROFESSIONALISM, COMMITMENT, DILIGENCE, not to mention the employees' benefits, are RECOGNIZED, for both PERMANENT & NON-REGULAR EMPLOYEES, like 13th mothpay and incentives, for both permanent and non-regular employees.

With the aforementioned long discussion of its causes, I preferred to air my SENTIMENTS on non-renewal of my contract, which I assessed as IRRATIONAL.

How was the non-renewal of my contract took effect?

Supposedly, I was given with 3 subjects by our Department Head, namely:  APPLIED ECONOMICS,  CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR) & BUSINESS ETHICS and THE ENTREPRENEURIAL MIND.

When I learned about 2 of these subjects trasmitted through TEAM APPS accompanied with ERS Screenshot, from the class president (ALEANA JOY PABELIC), I immidiately confirmed it through T.U.P. website's FACULTY ACCESS MODULE, and found the 3 subjects which were offered.

Later, I told  ALEANA JOY PABELIC (class president) that I would COMFIRM it first, as I haven't signed a CONTRACT yet, given that I'm not permanent in my EMLOYMENT with T.U.P.

Subsequently, I coordinated with our Department Head about this through FB Private MESSAGE, and explained why I preferred not to accomodate APPLIED ECONOMICS.

Thereafter, I was phone-called and told irritably that all of the 3 subjects would be removed than removing one, if that's  the case (something to that effect). I responded okay. What can I do, it's the Department Head's decision-making, despite the EXPLANATION?

I told him that I could not accomodate APPLIED ECONOMICS, as I am a MARKETING MAJOR. However, he spliced the 3 subjects into ZERO.

While enduring my commitment, I exercized my professionalism, resourcefullness  diligence, and ingenuity, in any subjects that I handled both on a FACE-TO-FACE and ON-LINE CLASSES.

I allowed the students to engage in debates (esp. on FACE-TO-FACE CLASS); so as to MEASURE their EXCELLENCE and SPONTANEITY. I would let them one by one from front row up to the last row (composed of approx. 50 students in every class), to participate in all of the DISCUSSIONS, as I did not want anyone to be left behind, but LEARN and ADAPT.

In preparation for every discussion, I would basically transmit the TOPIC CONCENTRATION through FACEBOOK PAGE; for them to dissect, research, for some clarifications and objections.

In view of the abovementioned realities, I've been on a ZERO KNOWLEDE pertaining to POLICIES of the University; as I was not provided with a hard/soft copy of it (despite the request). I have no idea if other non-permanent Instructors experience this.

We're not even called for any CONSULTATIONS/MEETINGS among the non-permanent INSTRUCTORS (both in a FACE-TO-FACE & ON-LINE CLASSES) in my three (3) semesters of exposure in the University.

Unlike in the CORPORATE SALES, that CONSULTATIONS/MEETINGS are constantly held every Monday; for WEEKLY DEVELOPMENTS, CONCERNS, SUGGESTIONS, COMPLAINTS; so as to address them individually than ignored. And take note, these are for both PERMANENT & NON-PERMANENT EMPLOYEES.

On the contrary,  in CORPORATE SALES, everything is FREE (from laptop, mobile phone, communication/transpo/meal allowances, IT & TECH Supports - which is EXACTLY the OPPOSITE in the STATE UNIVERSITY), which are all shouldered by the Instructos, and  that is why I've been used to being supported by IT & TECH people in times of TECH & IT troubles.

I just don't know if it's still the same with private schools/universities.

At first, I thought that my aiming of SECURITY of TENURE would be obtained, but I was wrong.

I realized that working in a GOVERMENT UNIVERSITY does not recompense all of the difficulties (from Lesson Planning which lasted until midnight and even after the following day for a review, up to checking of test papers), which is beyond an EXTRA-MILE.

But since I finished obeying, it's time now time to EXPRESS my DISSATISFACTION than be SILENT FOREVER. Because if it happened that my life was taken, when I was COMATOSED, which lasted for almost two (2) months; these disappointments would just all be burried in the tomb.

Obedience has also its limits, when it already compromises not only my ACADEMIC FREEDOM  but also the SKILLS of the students. Alrhough their education is free, as it is SUBSIDIZED by the governent, they deserve QUALITY EDUCATION than DEPRIVED, if the university believes that the youth is the HOPE of the COUNTRY than LIABILITY.

The one I forecasted to be a solution on my plan for  the SECURITY of TENURE, is indeed irrrelevant, although I found it enjoyable & embraced it as a MISSION, obviously because I also come from a poor family. Nonetheless, I found out that It's even HARSHER than my experience in CORPORATE SALES; wherein the employees' DEDICATION, PROFESSIONALISM, COMMITMENT, DILIGENCE, not to mention the employees' benefits, are RECOGNIZED, for both PERMANENT & NON-REGULAR EMPLOYEES, like 13th mothpay and allowances. I'm just clueless, if this is the same in other state/private universities.

The intention of which is likewise to maximize the FACEBOOK's features & benefits on airing of sentiments which never addressed while in the jurisdiction of the concerned, which may also happen to the students who will be investing time, money and dedicated efforts on employability.
