Did Jesus Christ express humor? If yes or no, why?

👑😊✨ Vivat Jesus!

The viral video featuring a priest jumping in terror and stumbling backward to evade a stray rat during a church service is actually an AI-generated video rather than a real event.

Because the video is entirely generated by artificial intelligence, the "priest" depicted is not a real person, and the incident never actually occurred.

The clip has circulated widely across social media platforms as the "Rat Priest" meme, creating a humorous depiction of panic at the altar.

Primarily, yes, Catholic teaching and Scripture recognize that Jesus Christ possessed a true human sense of humor and capacity for laughter.

Why Jesus Expressed Humor

Complete Human Nature: Catholic theology (such as the teachings affirmed by the Council of Chalcedon) holds that Jesus is fully divine and fully human.

Because a sense of humor and joy are natural parts of a complete human experience, Jesus shared in them.

Hyperbole and Absurdity: Jesus often used dramatic, funny mental images to teach spiritual lessons and highlight human hypocrisy:

The Speck and the Plank: He joked about someone trying to pull a tiny speck of dust out of another person's eye while ignoring a massive wooden plank stuck in their own (Matthew 7:3-5).

Swallowing a Camel: He scolded religious hypocrites with a vivid, cartoonish picture of straining a tiny, ritually unclean gnat out of a drink while carelessly swallowing a massive camel (Matthew 23:24).

The Eye of a Needle: He used humorous exaggeration about a giant camel trying to squeeze through the tiny eye of a sewing needle to show how hard it is for the wealthy to enter heaven (Luke 18:25).

Social Life and Irony: The Gospels note that Jesus attended weddings, shared festive meals with friends and sinners, used playful satire (such as calling King Herod a "fox" in Luke 13:32), and used gentle irony in conversations—such as when He asked the man born blind if he believed in the Son of Man, and the man asked who it was, to which Jesus replied, "You're looking at Him" (John 9:35–37).

Accordingly, a sense of humor is a gift when used with love, and Jesus' humanity fully embraced authentic human joy.
