👑😊✨ Vivat Jesus!
A human sneezes as an involuntary defense reflex to clear foreign particles, allergens, or viruses (like dust, pollen, and germs) from the nasal passages and respiratory tract.
Why We Sneeze
Pathogen and Irritant Expulsion: When particles irritate the sensitive lining of the nose, nerve endings send a signal to the brainstem (medulla).
System Reset: Accordingly, the sudden, forceful blast of air expels trapped debris and "resets" the nasal cilia (tiny hair-like paddles) to help defend against illness.
Can It Be Controlled?
No, it cannot be fully controlled. Sneezing is an automatic reflex orchestrated by the nervous system, meaning you cannot consciously stop the actual muscle contraction once the brain triggers it.
Why you shouldn't hold it in: While you can sometimes delay or temporarily block the early tickle sensation (such as by pressing under your nose to stimulate sensory nerves), actively holding in or suppressing a sneeze by pinching your nose and closing your mouth is dangerous.
Risks of Suppression: Blocking a sneeze traps intense respiratory pressure (increasing airway pressure 5 to 20 times normal), which can lead to severe injuries like a ruptured eardrum, broken eye blood vessels, a ruptured throat, or a brain aneurysm.
The only verse in the Bible that mentions sneezing is 2 Kings 4:32-35, which says:
When Elisha reached the house, he found the boy dead, lying on the bed.
He went in, closed the door on them both, and prayed to the LORD.
Then he lay upon the child on the bed, placing his mouth upon the child’s mouth, his eyes upon the eyes, and his hands upon the hands. As Elisha stretched himself over the child, the boy’s flesh became warm.
He arose, paced up and down the room, and then once more stretched himself over him, and the boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.
