What happens to human body as
soon as he/she dies?
Physical human bodies die but human souls never
die. The Catechism of the Catholic Church educates that every spiritual soul
"is immortal: It does not perish when it separates from the body at death,
and it will be reunited with the body at the final Resurrection" (CCC
366).
At the instance of one’s death, the soul
disconnects from the body, is judged right away, and goes into either heaven (straight
away or through purgatory) or hell.
Every human receives her/his perpetual
retribution in his/her immortal soul at the time of his death, in a particular
judgment that refers his/her life to Christ: either entrance into the
blessedness of heaven - through a purgation or immediately - or immediate and everlasting damnation. (CCC1022)
Luke 16:22 When the poor man died, he was carried away by angels to the bosom of Abraham.
The rich man also died and was buried.
Luke 23:43 He replied to him, "Amen, I say to
you, today you will be with me in Paradise.
2 Corinthian 5:8 Yet we are courageous, and we would
rather leave the body and go home to the Lord.
Philippians 1:23 I am caught between the two. I long to depart this life and be with Christ,
(for) that is far better.
Each soul will join with its resurrected body
just prior to the Last Judgment ("Judgment Day") when Jesus returns:
In the presence of our Lord Jesus, who is Truth
itself, the truth of every human’s relationship with Him will be exposed. The
Last Judgment will uncover even to its furthest consequences the good each
person has carried out or failed to accomplish in her/his lifetime.
The Last Judgment will
approach when Jesus returns in glory. Only the Father knows the day and the
hour; only He determines the moment of the next Parousia Parousia. Then through His Son Jesus, He will declare
the final word on all history. Everybody shall know the final meaning of the entire
architecture of creation and of the whole economy of salvation and comprehend
the awe-inspiring ways by which His Providence led everything towards its destiny.
The Last Judgment will expose that God’s justice prevails over all the commission
of injustices of His creatures and that God’s love is stronger than death. (CCC1039-1040)
