Our
family has never expected that financial provision coming from sisters' friends,
relatives and non-relatives would be that outpouring as we struggled on raising
funds for our father who was not released by Binakayan Hospital & Medical Center because of its non-permission to settle the approximately P165,000.00 (from its original amount of
around 270,000.00 less Philhealth and
Senior Citizen Discount making it about Php165,000) hospital accounts payable through promissory note.
Nonetheless, because of my
sisters’ (Mylene and Christine) persevering heart to obtain resources, we have
been able to release our father who was supposed to be out of the hospital on
March 3, 2017 but only made it on March 15 in the evening. Indeed, women are
natural givers. According to a research,
women seek to give to others but also to their communities because they enjoy
living their lives through a cause that serves the advancement and acceleration
of societal needs.[1]
On behalf of our family, with a humbling spirit, please allow us to express our
deepest gratitude for your being open-handed, most especially to Christine’s friend (Mirasol Aguilar) and her sister who went out of their comfort zone at 3 o’clock in the morning of February
25, 2017 just to bring the Php20,000 that my sister borrowed to Molino Doctors Hospital and Vicky Apacible who woke up at 3:30AM in the morning and allowed my sister Mylene to lend
Php10,000. By their combined unexpected
help in an urgent need, we were able to transfer our father from Molino
Doctors Hospital, which refused to admit him at their Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
when our patient’s body did not respond to the medications that the doctor had
prescribed. Brought by his condition
from cardiac arrest, insufficient doctors
and inadequate ICU facility, we needed to sign a
waiver repeatedly (to acknowledge that we’re aware of these factors) and advised by the hospital to transfer our
patient to the nearest hospital equipped with complete facilities. Personally,
I did not like the idea on awareness that a relative’s son (Gina's eldest son, Jonel) had spent a huge amount in the ICU but did not survive
after all). I left the hospital while my father was at the ICU because I was empty-handed and clueless what to do because I'm still on my employment probation. I told the siblings just to retain him in
this hospital as it is an ICU set-up anyway based on the hospital information although
it has no complete facility according to them, because I knew that we could not
afford the expenses (based on estimated cost that the hospital laid
down). I learned later on that my three (3) siblings (Mylene,
Marvin and Christine) did some moves.
Based
on my siblings story, it was almost 7AM
that our father was transferred to Binakayan Hospital & Medical Center caused by the unavailable ambulance
and searching for a cheaper ICU. Another problem cropped up when our father
was already admitted to the latter because the hospital demanded a Php30,000
down-payment. Providentially, we made it
through Mylene’s old time colleague (Geoffrey) who allowed his bank passbook to
be utilized as a show money, which Molino Doctors used to guarantee to the
other hospital that we can pay after weekend (as no bank is open on weekends),
although the money would be taken from Christine’s friend but not from Geofrey.
From
the span of admission, our father has been in the ICU for 6 days and 12 days in
the regular room, which incurred around Php400,000 in expenses. With
these skyrocketing rate, when I learned that Christine approached her
friends through Facebook to ask for financial support, I was compelled to make
a post also on Facebook and google. When
my cousin (Mona de Galicia Ecleo) spotted it on Facebook, she tagged a lot
of relatives. Subsequently, my other
sister Mylene Ecleo also approached her friends to ask for assistance. Through these initiatives, we’ve been able to
generate the following funds:
Special
mention also to Irvin’s wife, Mylene Cacho who has been supportive to her husband on going to and fro while our father was
in the hospital; to my younger brother Marvin Ecleo who has been diligent on fetching the family
members from the hospital to the house; to Marlon Ecleo and his wife Nilda Devara
whose visit at the ICU made our father to burst in tears, an indication that
they have already settled their indifferences. Also, to Mylene Ecleo for her
unwavering support eventhough she’s jobless, who has been brave despite of
the motorbike accident when her ankle was hit by another motorbike whose driver
was drunk.

Thanks
likewise to Mr. Marlo Rivera, OSM Crew Payroll Manager, for helping Christine
in facilitating her loan.
For all of these encounters, the
idea of “to whom much is given, much will be required” which manifests to the
instruments of hope for our father’s survival, teaches me to be more responsible
for what I have.
It
is easy to presuppose that only wealthy people have been “given much,” but, in
reality, all have been given much (1 Corinthians 4:7), have been granted the
abundant grace of God (Ephesians 1:3-10 ; 3:16-21; Romans 5:8-11; 8:14-17, the Word of God, and the gifts of the
Holy Spirit (John 14:16-21; 16:13); Romans 12:6). As the teaching says, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as
faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms” (1 Peter 4;10) . If blessed with talents, wealth, knowledge, time, and the like, it is
expected, that including me, I should use these well to glorify God and benefit
others. If one’s gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is
teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then provide encouragement; if it
is giving, then give openhandedly; if it is to lead, do it with thoroughness; if
it is to show mercy, do it with cheeriness”(Romans 12:6-8) - responsible stewardship, that is.
As the Scripture re-echoes: “You have been
told, O man, what is good, and what the LORD requires of you: Only to do right
and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God”(Micah 6:8).
Again,
from the bottom of our hearts, MARAMING MARAMING SALAMAT PO! May the good Lord bless you more and your whole
families, Amen!
