Whether we like it or not, this type of
indoctrination has already been embedded in the hearts of minds of
non-Catholics so it's already difficult to influence them not unless with the
humble heart to a non-biased research. But in reality, it's their tendency to
Bible-cut so as to defend the particular teaching that they've been used to, to
make them more credible and preserve anything that is established.
The problem with some of the fellow Catholics, is
their absenteeism to the Liturgy and not finding a quality time on reading the
Bible and Catechism, resulting them to a quick indoctrination, and could easily
be blinded thereby after hearing some teachings that are new to their ears,
This is called veneration or honoring. Veneration
is different from worshiping. These sects are infuriated when noticing the
Catholics honoring or venerating Jesus' image and the Saints but remain silent
to people who salute and guard the image of Rizal in Luneta. Hypocrisy at its
best,
In the Bible, where do we find a physical object
being venerated or shown honor, similar to an icon?
Joshua 7:6-7 Then Joshua rent his clothes, and
fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the evening,
he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust upon their heads. [7] And Joshua
said, “Alas, O Lord GOD, why hast thou brought this people over the Jordan at
all, to give us into the hands of the Amorites, to destroy us? Would that we
had been content to dwell beyond the Jordan!
Did the temple have statues or carved images in
it, associated with and always present during worship? Of course!
2 Chronicles 3:7 So he lined the house with gold
-- its beams, its thresholds, its walls, and its doors; and he carved cherubim
on the walls.
During the ancient times, carving if images was
forbidden by God brought by the tendency of Israelites to worship it. Second,
God did not show Himself yet to the humanity. However, common sense tells us
that since God had already descended from Heaven and lived with His creations,
naturally the ancient people had acquired the idea on how God looked like.
The Church Triumphant is
represented by patriarchs and prophets from the Old Testament together with the
martyrs and apostles from the New Testament. They are the “great cloud of
witnesses” stipulated in Hebrews 12:1. They are the Saints in heaven who have
championed over their three primary enemies - the devil and his lies, the world
and its seductions, and the flesh and its strong disordered desires.
