Parents' respect and affection are expressed by
the care and attention they devote to bringing up their young children and
providing for their physical and spiritual needs. As the children grow up, the
same respect and devotion lead parents to educate them in the right use of
their reason and freedom (Catechism of the Catholic Church CCC 2228)
Parents don't need a special occasion like
birthday or holiday to express love towards the family. Daily gestures like
thoughtful note or a simple 'I love you' are powerful ways to show to the
children how much they are cared and how much they are treasured by their
parents.
Provided below can be an approach as an
expression of love to the children:
1. Write a love letter to the child, noting down
a few of the reasons why you love your child and why you think he is special.
SEND THIS LETTER THROUGH A COURIER.
2. Make some surprise. Skip afternoon activities
one day and take them on an adventure - trekking, to the beach, or simply a
walk in the park.
3. Read one more story when the child asks for
more, even when you are tired as she/he appreciates extra attention.
4. Frame a favorite picture and write a note at
the back of the photo articulating why it’s your favorite. Then give this photo
to keep it in her/his room.
5. Tell the child of your favorite positive
memory with them- birth’s story, or any other special moment.
6. Multiply the affection by giving them a dozen
hugs, telling them the magical word “I Love you” constantly, or give them a
hundred kisses. The child will love the silliness of the amount and will enjoy
the extra affection.
7. Dance, sing, and laugh. Put on that favorite
“oldie” and show to the child that moves. Type of song doesn’t matter; they
will enjoy the time you spend together with them.
8. Lunch box love can also be magical. Write a
silly poem or the lyrics to a song that reminds you of your child and conceal
this in the child’s lunchbox. The child will smile and feel loved even when not
together.
9. Get rid of the rules occasionally. Allow the
child to play with every toy in their room, run and play in the rain, or play
in the mud with her/him. Enjoy and experience the beautiful, perfect moments of
life’s clutter.
10. Articulate the magical word “I Love you”
towards the kids on a daily basis – a simple but strong, saying of "I love
you" is an effortless expression unbounded love to the child.
Certainly sons are a gift
from the LORD, the fruit of the womb, a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a
warrior are the sons born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man who has filled his
quiver with them. He will never be shamed for he will destroy his foes at the
gate (Psalm 127:3-5)
